WE DID IT!!!
On 3/7-3/8,Rev. 23 saved lives! We were able to raise enough money to feed a family of 4 for over 9 months! Great job guys!
We started our 30 Hour Famine with some trivia. Did you know that over 26,000 children under the age of 5 day each day from preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea and acute respiratory infections? Did you also know that Americans make up only 5% of the world, but we consume 50% of the world's resourses!
This weekend the youth learned that food and healthcare is a tremendous blessing and should not be taken for granted. When asked to turn in their cell phones and sit in silence, they not only did it, but they searched their hearts and prayed for those in need. During church the next morning we all went up as a group to tell the congregation what we learned and how we had been feeling. After that we went to our local Acme to collect more donations. We met a lot of great people who were so proud of what we we're doing. One gentelman said that it put a smile on his face to see young people sacrificing themselves to save lives. What a great testimony!
At the end of our fast we ate something very interesting. Severely malnourished children cannot digest the many things that we eat so they are fed dishes such as Unimix. Unimix is a dish that consists of 40% mashed beans, 30% corn meal, 10% vegetable oil, 10% dry milk and 10% sugar. After 30 Hours without food, some of the youth even enjoyed this strange concoction! After they had tried this mix they got the good stuff....pizza! After only 30 hours, we not only changed the lives of others, but our lives are forever changed as well! It was a weekend that we will never forget!
